The UK Prime Minister’s Office released a video of the two leaders speaking to each other.

The UK PM says into the speaker: “Congratulations Prime minister we’ve achieved something truly historic today.

“This is the biggest deal the UK has done since we left the EU, and I think I’m right in saying it’s the most ambitious that India has ever done.”

PM Modi, speaking in Hindi, says: “The credit for this goes to your vision, and to your decisive leadership. This deal will further strengthen the India-UK strategic partnership.”

PM Starmer: “This deal will raise living standards, put more money in the pockets of British working people, and deepen the unique ties between our two nations.

“Thank you very much for this call, thank you for your leadership prime minister. Today is a very important historic occasion between our two countries.”

Earlier, the UK PM said in a post on X:

“Today Britain has agreed a landmark trade deal with India.

“Fantastic news for British business, British workers, and British shoppers, delivering on our Plan for Change.

“Good to speak to Prime Minister @NarendraModi as we mark this historic moment.”

“The Tories talked up a trade deal with India for eight years, but never delivered.

“My Labour government rolled up our sleeves and got the job done in 10 months.

“We are delivering for working people.”

PM Modi said in a post on X:

“Delighted to speak with my friend PM @Keir_Starmer.

“In a historic milestone, India and the UK have successfully concluded an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, along with a Double Contribution Convention.

“These landmark agreements will further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and catalyse trade, investment, growth, job creation, and innovation in both our economies. I look forward to welcoming PM Starmer to India soon.”
