New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was on Tuesday adjourned for the day after uproar by both the treasury and Opposition benches over various issues, including the rejection of a privilege motion against the BJP’s Nishikant Dubey and the alleged Congress-Soros link.
As soon as the House reconvened at 12 noon, presiding officer Dilip Saikia called for the papers to be laid on the table.
During the laying of papers, Samajwadi Party member Dharmendra Yadav accused the government of not allowing the House to function.
“You don’t want the House to function. The government does not want the House to function and is putting the entire blame on the Opposition. Your intention is not clear,” Yadav said.
After the papers were laid, the Chair called upon Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to introduce the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024. However, Congress member Manish Tiwari and Saugata Roy of Trinamool Congress opposed the Bill.
Presiding officer Saikia then called for the Zero Hour, but then Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stood up and accused the Opposition of disrupting the House since the start of the Winter Session.
“The first four days of the session got wasted as the Opposition disrupted the House. The Opposition has shamed the nation with their act. People have been elected to the House so that issues of the common man can be taken up,” Rijiju said.
He further said, “The Congress should apologise to the nation for creating disruption in the House. The party should also come out clear on its link with George Soros”.
After this, Congress members started making loud noise. And in retaliation, members of the ruling party too stood up from their seats and started making noise.
The Chair then adjourned the House for the day, to meet at 11 am on Wednesday (December 11, 2024).
Earlier when the Lower House met for the day, the Opposition members created ruckus. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla while asking the member to let the House function said that Parliament is a sacred place. The aspirations and expectations of the country are fulfilled in the Parliament.
Birla said that the kind of demonstrations and slogans being raised in the Parliament complex for the last few days are not only indecent but also against all decorum.
Despite his request, the uproar continued, and the Chair adjourned the House till 12 noon.
