5 Gallantry Medals, A Historic Moment For J&K Police

“ A poignant moment in the ceremony was the recognition of five officers and personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police with Shaurya Chakras, marking a historic first for the force. SgCt. Saif Ullah Qadri (posthumously), DySP (now SP) Mohan Lal, SI Amit Raina, SI Feroz Ahmed, and Ct Varun Singh were honored for their unwavering bravery and selfless service.”

Srinagar: President Droupadi Murmu, in a solemn ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, conferred 10 Kirti Chakras and 26 Shaurya Chakras to commendable individuals from the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State/Union Territory Police. Among them, seven Kirti Chakras and seven Shaurya Chakras were awarded posthumously, underscoring the valor and sacrifice displayed by these brave souls.

Kirti Chakra Recipients: The Kirti Chakra recipients include Inspector Dilip Kumar Das from CoBRA, CRPF; Head Constable Raj Kumar Yadava and Constable Bablu Radha from CRPF; Sambhu Roy and Sepoy Pawan Kumar from The Grenadiers 55th Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles; Captain Anshuman Singh; Havaldar Abdul Majid; Major Digvijay Singh Rawat; Major Deependra Vikram Basnet; and Naib Subedar Pawan Kumar Yadav. Among the Shaurya Chakra awardees were Constable Safiullah Qadri from Jammu and Kashmir Police; Major Vikas Bhambhu and Major Mustafa Bohara from the Army; Rifleman Kulbushan Manta from the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, 52nd Battalion; Havildar Vivek Singh Tomar; Rifleman Alok Rao from 18 Assam Rifles; Captain MV Pranjal from The Corps of Signals, 63rd Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles; and others who displayed exceptional courage in the face of adversity. The awards, bestowed for conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage, and unwavering dedication to duty, serve as a testament to the exceptional commitment and sacrifices made by these individuals in safeguarding the nation’s security and integrity. For the first time in the history of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, five Shaurya Chakras were conferred upon its officers and personnel today, recognizing their extraordinary courage and bravery in service to the nation.

Shaurya Chakra:  President of India, bestowed the Shaurya Chakra upon SgCt. Saif Ullah Qadri (posthumously), DySP (now SP) Mohan Lal, SI Amit Raina, SI Feroz Ahmed, and Ct Varun Singh of the Jammu and Kashmir Police at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Additionally, the Shaurya Chakra was awarded to VDC member Shri Parshotam Kumar of Rajouri.

DGP Swain’s Congratulations: DGP J&K, R.R. Swain, lauded the courage and bravery of these gallant officers, congratulating them and their families. In his message, the DGP said that the dedication, devotion, and service of these brave officers have brought honor and glory to the JKP parivar, with their recognition at the highest level.  He emphasized that this acknowledgment underscores the exemplary commitment of one of the finest police forces in the country. The DGP expressed heartfelt gratitude to President of India, Droupadi Murmu; Prime Minister, Narendra Modi,Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, and the officers of the Ministry of Defence, the Central Government, and Jammu & Kashmir Government for recognizing the valor and sacrifices of the J&K Police. He also extended his thanks to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their unwavering support to the force. The Ministry of Defence had announced the Shaurya Chakras for these brave hearts on Independence Day 2023 and Republic Day 2024.  “Awards inspire others to demonstrate similar courage and dedication, serving as powerful role models for future generations. They also strengthen the bond between the security forces and the community, fostering trust and support, while also garnering continued governmental backing for these brave individuals and their causes.”
