Heatwave over North, Central & East India to reduce gradually: IMD

New Delhi: Northwest, Central and East India are expected to experience heatwave conditions with reduced intensity for the next three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

According to IMD, “Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and in isolated pockets of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Odisha and Jharkhand from today (Sunday) till June 5 (Wednesday).”

The weather department has predicted no significant change in maximum temperatures over Northwest India during the next three days and over West India during the next 48 hours.

“Thereafter, the temperature over these region is very likely to fall by by 2-3°C,” the IMD said.

On the advancement of Southwest Monsoon, the IMD said, “Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 2-3 days.”

The weather department has also predicted rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over several parts of India including, Northeast, Northwest and South Peninsular region of the country for the next few days.

Under influence of strong southerly winds over Bay of Bengal to Northeastern states, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall will take place accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning winds gusting up to 40 kmph over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 7 days, the IMD said.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Arabian sea adjoining south Kerala coast in middle tropospheric levels and another cyclonic circulation lies over westcentral Bay of Bengal adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal,” the IMD said.

Under its influence fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema during the next 7 days,” it said.

Under influence of western disturbance, isolated to scattered light rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand during the next five days, it added.
