NCORD meeting held at Shopian, ADC asks for strict action against Drug peddlers

Samba: The district-level Committee under NARCO Coordination (NCORD) Centre was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samba, Abhishek Sharma here on Friday.
The meeting held a detailed discussion on the efforts of enforcement agencies in combating drug abuse and narcotic trafficking in the district. A detailed discussion on previous directives to address the drug problem was also held.
Concerned departments and agencies shared the steps they have taken to make Samba drug-free, including addressing drug addiction and identifying hotspots of drug use.
The DC directed the heads of educational institutions to frame a calendar of activities for Nasha Mukt once ongoing examinations conclude and ensure compliance with COTPA guidelines, particularly regarding the prohibition of tobacco items near schools.
He emphasized the sustainability of Nasha Mukt status in Panchayats and underscored the involvement of Civil Society members in ongoing activities. Furthermore, he directed for the nomination of ambassadors of NCORD and installation of suggestion/ complaint boxes. In addition to this, the Department of Youth, Services and Sports was asked to conduct sports meets/events and facilitate the students for participation in sports activities.
Additionally, all stakeholder departments were tasked with monitoring new drug addiction cases in Nasha Mukt Panchayats and submitting action reports.
The meeting also reviewed the status of CCTV camera installation and it was informed that over 90 percent medical shops have installed CCTV cameras and computerized billing in retail medical shops is also ensured.
Moreover, the ALC Samba along with the team of excise department and Narcotics department, Samba shall continue the awareness drive in various industrial units and also inform the workers/labourers about the pros and cons of drugs and brief them about the ill effects of drug abuse.
Among others the meeting was attended by SSP Samba, Vinay Kumar, ADC Samba, Suresh Sharma, representative from BSF including 2IC Jay Prakash and Deputy Commandant Deepak Kumar, ACR Samba, Kusum Chib, SDM Gaghwal, SDM Vijaypur, DIO and other district and Sectoral officers.
