Moving beyond Srinagar, the picturesque tourist haven of Pahalgam also witnessed grand New Year celebrations organized by the J&K Tourism Department. The renowned tourist haven of Sonamarg, draped in the enchanting beauty of snow-capped peaks and embraced by sub-zero temperatures, bid adieu to 2023 and welcomed the dawn of 2024 with unprecedented enthusiasm during the inaugural Two-Day New Year Festival. The entire landscape underwent a festive metamorphosis, adorned with vibrant illuminations and hosting a myriad of events designed to captivate both tourists and locals alike. Organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Tourism Department, the festival aimed not only to revel in the scenic allure of Sonamarg but also to establish it as a premier winter destination. Officials highlighted that the event received praise from both locals and tourists, commending the district administration for their effective promotion and publicity endeavors, further solidifying Sonamarg’s reputation as an emerging winter retreat. Visitors praised the warmth of Kashmiri hospitality and encouraged others to explore the wonders of Gulmarg. Raja Yaqoob Farooq, Director of Tourism Kashmir told Kashmir Horizon that both Gulmarg and Pahalgam witnessed almost 100% occupancy last week. Sonamarg also witnessed good footfall for the first time in winter,” he said. “Many tourists are coming and what is heartening is that foreign tourists are coming in good numbers,” he said.
