New Delhi: In a pre-dawn operation, the Army struck at Naga rebel belonging to NSCN of Khaplang group along the border with Myanmar, inflicting heavy casualties among their cadres.
However, the Indian troops did not suffer any casualties. The Army also clarified that the troops did not cross the international border. It was not a “surgical strike,’’ it said. The Army action came when the insurgents fired upon them while they were operating in Nagaland along the Myanmar border, the Eastern Command said in a statement. It said the Indian troops reacted swiftly and resorted to heavy retaliatory fire upon the insurgents breaking their ranks .
“As per the inputs, a large number of casualties were suffered by the insurgents. Our own troops suffered no casualties during the firefight,’’ the Eastern Command said. The Army had acted against the NSCN(K) in June 2015 too, a few days after the insurgents had killed 18 Army jawans in Chandel district of Manipur.
