Itanagar: A preliminary meeting on the proposed visit of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama to Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh was convened by the district administration in the conference hall of DC office, Tawang on Monday.

It may be mentioned that the Dalai Lama has accepted the invite from Chief Minister Pema Khandu to visit Arunachal Pradesh, when he alongwith his family members met the Tibetan spiritual leader on January one this year and received his blessings.

Attending today’s meeting, local MLA Tsering Tashi said that the Dalai Lama has consented to visit Tawang, but the weather condition of Tawang is a major factor in making the visit successful.

In today’s preliminary meeting, a tentative programme has to be finalised which will be further sent to Govt for consideration and to pursue with the office of the Dalai Lama, he added.

Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang said in his welcome address that it will be a good opportunity for all of us to have an audience of Dalai Lama in Tawang.

While mentioning that ‘this is just a preliminary meeting wherein we shall discuss about the groundwork preparations’, he sought cooperation from all to make this visit successful.

During open discussion of the meeting seeking suggestions and opinion from the members present, Lama Ngawang Norbu and Lama Jampa Tsundu from Tawang Monastery, Lobsang Phuntsok, founder Director of Jhamtse Gatsal, Lungla and other members placed their suggestions for formation of a state level reception committee, and other matters related to the proposed visit.

Later, the house formed a committee to inspect the places of visit by the Dalai Lama on his proposed visit, and the committee members were asked to submit their report/proposals, if any, needed for renovation of those places at the earliest. Further, a committee headed by senior monk Lama Ngawang was also formed to offer long life offerings and prayers (Tenshug) to the Dalai Lama.

Today’s meeting was also attended by Tawang ZPC Leki Gombu, Abbot of Sera Jey Jamyang Choikorling Monastery, Dolhe Rinpoche, representatives from various monasteries & nunneries, and PRI leaders and government officers.
