New Delhi: Stepping up its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Monday said the PM should break his ‘’silence’’ on the Manipur situation, and make all efforts to bring normalcy in the state.
Congress, which has been blaming the BJP government in Manipur over the current situation in the aftermath of last month’s violence, also demanded that an all-party delegation should be allowed to go to the Northeastern state to visit all the affected areas and meet all stakeholders.
“Why has the PM not said anything whatsoever about Manipur since the 100th episode of ‘Mann ki Baat’ ? What happened to ‘Manipur ki Baat’? Why has the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s appeal for peace on May 30, completely failed ?,” asked Congress leaders- Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik and Bhakta Charan Das, at a joint press conference at the party headquarters, referring to the situation in Manipur.
They added, “We demand that the PM should break his silence and visit Manipur at the earliest to make all efforts to restore trust in the administration and bring normalcy in the state. We also demand that a national all-party delegation should be allowed to go to Manipur to visit all the affected areas and meet all stakeholders.”
“The current ‘crisis’ in Manipur is the result of the ‘divisive politics’ of BJP in the state. It is also the result of the intelligence failure of the state government,” the Congress party had said.
Last week, the Centre constituted a “Peace Committee” for Manipur under the Chairpersonship of the state Governor Anusuiya Uikey. The mandate of the Committee will be to facilitate the peace making process among various ethnic groups of the State, including peaceful dialogue and negotiations between conflicting parties/groups.
