Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today warned that anyone taking part in any rally with arms during festival would be dealt with sternly under the law and refuted the BJP’s allegation that her government was pursuing appeasement policy.
Talking to reporters at Nabanna, Ms Banerjee iterated, ‘ The government has decided that there will no be immersion of Durga idol on the day of Muharram on October 1.
‘ Ms Banerjee charged the BJP and RSS with misguiding the people on the issue of immersion timing and outright rejected allegation that her government pursued the appeasement policy.
She said, ‘ The state of West Bengal has some 30 per cent Muslim population compared to Maharastra (10), Bihar and UP 11 per cent each, and therefore her government’s administrative situation was different from other states.
Ms Banerjee said, ‘ The BJP after failing to fight politically has engaged CBI and ED against the Opposition.
