Imphal: Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister on Saturday virtually inaugurated i-Connect programme & SFE-Annual Award Ceremony during International Bioresource Conclave and Ethnopharmacology Congress (ISESFEC 2023) here.
Dr Singh also inaugurated centre for outreach activities and scientists and students hostel facility of IBSD. He said the conference focuses on globalization of traditional medicines which is being organized for the first time in the north east.
He said such an event where over 105 scientific lectures by eminent scientists were presented by over 700 delegates from 35 countries is a landmark development in the region.
The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) organized the event in collaboration with Society for Ethnopharmacology, India and International Society for Ethnopharmacology, Switzerland.
Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India highlighted various activities of DBT for the development of Bioeconomy and promotion of ethnopharmacology in
recent context.
He said Prof. Pulok K Mukherjee, Director, IBSD and other officials of the Institute showcased
the unique bioresources of Manipur and the region by organising the Congress.
Prof. Pulok K Mukherjee highlighted various sessions being organized during the congress mainly focussed on “Reimagine Ethnopharmacology: Globalization of Traditional Medicine”.
Prof. Marco Leonti, Secretary, ISE highlighted various activities of the society which is working on
the mission “Globalizing local knowledge and localizing global technologies”.
During the Annual Award Ceremony of SFE, awards were given to Prof. Thomas Efferth, Prof. Satyajit D Sarker, Prof. Guruaribam Shantibala Devi, Prof. Alvaro M. Viljoen, Dr. Lal Hingorani,
Dr. Caroline Sonja Weckerle, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Prof. Nongmaithem Rajmuhon Singh for their excellence in their research areas.
During the congress a special panel discussion session “i-Connect program: Business meet” is
being organized for the developing industry linkage with the entrepreneurs of this region. This congress will provide an environment for knowledge sharing among researchers, policymakers, industry persons, healthcare practitioners, and decision-makers interested in the promotion of bioresources, traditional medicines, ethnopharmacology and drug discovery.
