New Delhi: Terming the murder of senior journalist and activist GauriLankesh as ‘sad moment for our Democracy’, the Congress today said that it was a reflection of a ‘climate of intolerance’ in the country and throttling media freedom in the country.
The party said that the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President, Rahul Gandhi have spoken to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, K Siddaramaiah and urged him to swiftly bring the culprits to the book.
Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said,’the shocking and blood curdling murder of senior journalist and activist, Gauri Lankesh is a grim reminder of the times we live in.
This mindless and cowardly assassination has not only shaken our conscience but also an extremely sad moment for our Democracy.
The series of killings of rationalists, free thinkers and journalists has created an atmosphere that dissent, ideological differences and divergence of views can endanger our lives.
