Weatherman says rising temp not unusual, predicts light to moderate rains at scattered places in next 5 days
Srinagar:For the third straight day on Thursday, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded the hottest day of season at 34.2 degree Celsius while the rains have brought respite from the scorching heat in Jammu. The weatherman, however, has predicted light to moderate rains in spells at scattered places in Jammu and Kashmir for the next five days.
According to the local Meteorological (MeT) department, Srinagar was hotter than Jammu today. The mercury in Jammu settled at 31.7 degree Celsius while in Srinagar the maximum temperature was recorded 34.2 degree Celsius. Srinagar continues to simmer after the four-day wet spell in Kashmir last week.
Reports said 12 places in Kashmir including Srinagar, Qazigund, Kupwara, Kokernag, Anantnag, Khudwani, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Pulwama and Kulgam reeled under heat wave as the mercury settled above 30 degree Celsius in all these areas today.
Meanwhile, Director MeT, Sonum Lotus said that the Monsoon has arrived in plains of Jammu this morning and there is possibility of frequent showers, at times, intense in Jammu region especially in morning hours till July 5th.
Lotus further said that Srinagar touching 34-35 and Jammu 43-44 degree Celsius is not unusual, adding that it happens every year in June.
He further said that the light to moderate rains in spells, especially in morning hours would likely occur at scattered places of J&K, especially in Jammu region during next 4-5 days.
Lotus also said that the temperature would likely remain 31-32 in Jammu and 32-33 in Srinagar during next 24 hours
