New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal led AAP Government today doubled the salary of anganwadi workers and helpers of the state. The proposal of hike in the honorarium of the anganwadi staff was approved in Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The Cabinet gave a nod to around 100 per cent hike. The salary of the workers has been hiked from Rs 5,000 to Rs 9678 per month and helpers to Rs 4839 from Rs. 2,500 per month. In addition to increase in salary, the Government has also decided to provide these anganwadi staff mobile/internet charges. The workers will get a monthly amount of Rs 500 and helpers Rs 250. The decision comes in wake of several inspections made by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to the Anganwadis in Delhi. Mr Kejriwal had assured anganwadi workers last week that their salaries would be raised within a week. The Chief Minister gave this assurance after he met large number of workers at his residence here, who raised various issues, including hike in their salaries. “Wait for a week or so, you are going to get a salary hike and that too a handsome percentage. We are here for you and will take care of everything,” Mr Kejriwal said to the workers during their interaction with him.
