Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday extended relief under SRO-43 to the non-local victims of militancy related violence, which will entitle their next of kin to cash compensation.

The decision was taken by the Administrative Council of J&K, which met here under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, an official spokesperson said.

The decision extended relief under SRO-43 to the next of kin of victims who were non-residents of Jammu and Kashmir and were killed in the recent violence in the Kashmir valley, he said.

Farooq Khan and Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisors to the LG, along with Nitishwar Kumar, Principal Secretary to the LG, attended the meeting.

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta also was part of the meeting where the decision was finalised.

At least five non-local workers were killed in militancy related violence during the month of October this year.

SRO-43, promulgated as Compassionate Appointment Rules in 1994, was enacted to compensate kin of victims of militancy among government employees and other permanent residents of J&K

Lost in snow JK villagers traced in Shopian

Srinagar: Two villagers, who were reported missing from the upper reaches of Rajouri during snowfall last week, were traced in a village in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police has said.

Javed Shah of Targain and his relative Khadam Shah of Hasote-Chassana were reported missing on October 24 during a trip to Kashmir they carried out on foot with their sheep and goat, a police officer said.

The families of the two men lodged a complaint after they lost contact with them due to snowfall in the high altitude areas.

When Budhal Police station in Rajouri district got the information, it rushed a police party to the upper reaches of snow-bound mountains for a search and rescue operation, the officer said.

The army also joined the search party along with a team from Jammu’s Reasi district.

The men were located at Mony Mahal area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, the officer said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Sheema Nabi Qasba, meanwhile, appealed to the people not to venture in snow-bound areas and only use tracks which are safe in winter season.
