Rajouri: Two Day Interdisciplinary National Seminaron” Literatureand Philosophy”wasorganisedby theDepartmentofEnglish, BabaGhulamShahBadshahUniversityRajouri .Prof.AkbarMasood,ViceChancelloroftheUniversitycongratulatedthedepartmentfororganizingtheseminar.InhismessageProf.AkbarsaidthatasacomprehensiveacademicandresearchInstitution,ourvisionistoserveasasocialcatalystandtoestablishaframeworkforthefuturetemplateofsocioeconomicdevelopment. Prof. Vivek Sachdeva from Department of English, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University, New Delhi was the Key note speaker. Prof. Sachdeva in his keynote address gave an epistemological and ontological distinction between the two disciplines and gave the reasons for Philosophy’s supremacy in academia as perceived by the Greek philosophers. But with time, the distinction between these two disciplines blurred. Prof Sachdeva in his comprehensive presentation mentioned the contribution of various philosophers and writers who considered them as corollaries, as both disciplines share a curiosity to explore the questions of human existence, struggle and social – consciousness. The seminar was divided into two technical sessions, the first technical session was chaired by Dr Amit Yograj Kapur, Head, Department of the English, Shree J.P.Arts and Science College,Bharuch Gujarat, and was coordinated by Dr Mariya Aslam, Assistant Professor, Department of English, BGSBU. The second technical session was chaired by Prof Ayesha Munira Rasheed, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University, UP and was coordinated by Dr Shachi Sood, Assistant Professor,Department of English,BGSBU.Around thirty delegates from different parts of India presented their scholarly papers from different perspectives to examine the relationship between the two disciplines. The welcome address was delivered by Prof Iqbal Parwez, Dean Academic Affairs, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. In his welcome address, Prof Iqbal congratulated the department for its strenuous efforts to conduct such academic endeavours and appreciated the department for its relentless efforts to connect the best minds of India on an academic platform. The proceedings of the plenary session were conducted by Mr Tanvir Ahmed, Assistant Professor,Department of English, BGSBU and the conference report was presented by Dr.Romina Rashid, Head,Department of English, BGSBU. In her concluding address, she said that the education system has transformed, and in these contemporary times when we are moving towards an interdisciplinary approach to get a holistic view of human society and life, the differences between Philosophy and Literature erase as both complement each other in the pursuit of finding the truth. The Dean, School of Islamic Studies and Languages, Prof. G. M. Malik delivered the final vote of thanks.
