Srinagar/June,8: Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh have in separate statements extended greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of ‘Kabir Jayanti’.
In his message of felicitations, Governor N N Vohra observed that Bhagat Kabir’s writings influenced the Bhakti movement and his verses are found in the Guru Granth Sahib.
Bhagat Kabir had preached that God resides within a person who leads a virtuous life and treads the path of righteousness. Kabir’s teachings inspire us to live as better human beings by shunning greed, hatred and pride. Thewritings of this saint continue to inspire generations to work for a harmonious society which is based on equality and social justice. The Governor prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in the State.
In her message, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said Saint Kabir is known as the torch-bearer of ‘Bhakti Movement’ who preached the oneness of God, love, peace and universal brotherhood.
In his felicitation message Deputy Chief Minister said Sant Kabirdas besides being an exponent of social reform was also great poet, saint. He said he was an apostle of peace and harmony and his teachings are more relevant in the present context.
He also expressed hope that this auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of peace, progress, and prosperity in the State.
