- E-waste collection and Swachhata pledge held under Ministry of Education campaign
- Plantation and record-management initiatives aimed at a clean, green campus
Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Wednesday conducted e-waste collection, cleanliness, and plantation drives as part of the Ministry of Education’s Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM 6.0) and the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme.
Under the leadership of Director Prof. Anurag Mishra, these initiatives aimed to foster responsible e-waste management and environmental conservation. The e-waste collection drive, held at a designated campus location, encouraged the community to segregate electronic waste from general waste, promoting the message of recycling for a cleaner campus. In addition to the e-waste initiative, a plantation drive was organized to enhance environmental sustainability on campus. Key participants included various faculty members and administrative staff, who collectively took part in a Swachhata pledge and a cleanliness drive that involved cleaning efforts across multiple locations. This included engaging mess and canteen operators, shopkeepers, and other service providers in maintaining cleanliness and proper waste disposal. The Institute also began identifying obsolete physical and electronic files for disposal in line with record-retention requirements. Dr. Jitendra Gurjar, the Nodal Officer for SCDPM, highlighted the campaign’s goal of enhancing institutional cleanliness and expediting the disposal of outdated materials, emphasizing the need for collective participation in maintaining a well-organized and environmentally friendly campus. A stakeholder meeting held on October 27 further facilitated the review and planning of e-waste identification and segregation efforts. The disposal process for identified items is being pursued in accordance with established procedures.
