Srinagar| Oct, 26: Two patients from Srinagar and Anantnag have regained mobility following complex spinal surgeries at Livasa Hospital, Mohali, hospital officials said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Dr. Ajay Singh, Brain and Spine Specialist at Livasa Hospital, detailed the treatment of the two patients, whose conditions had significantly affected their mobility and daily activities.
The first patient, from Srinagar, developed a severe spinal infection complicated by sepsis following an earlier surgery. His condition deteriorated to the extent that he was unable to sit, stand or turn in bed and was brought to the hospital on a stretcher.
According to the hospital, Dr. Singh performed revision spine surgery to address the infection and associated spinal complications. The patient showed improvement in mobility by the second day after surgery and is continuing recovery under medical supervision and outpatient follow-up.
The second patient, a 21-year-old woman from Anantnag, was diagnosed with Grade III–IV dysplastic spondylolisthesis, a severe spinal condition that affected her ability to sit and stand comfortably.
Dr. Singh performed a hybrid posterolateral surgical procedure to correct and stabilise her spine, with the approach planned to avoid a more extensive circumferential procedure. The hospital said the treatment plan also took the family’s financial circumstances into consideration, as her father is a farmer.
Around nine to ten months after surgery, the woman has recovered well and returned to her normal routine, the hospital said.
Dr. Singh said the cases highlighted the importance of specialised surgical expertise, individualised treatment planning and timely intervention in managing complex spinal conditions.
The hospital said both patients had shown encouraging recovery following procedures tailored to their respective medical conditions.
