Directs time-bound investigations, intelligence-led policing, action against theft networks

Srinagar | Oct, 24: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Saturday reviewed crime disposal, security preparedness and winter arrangements across Kashmir, directing officers to ensure time-bound investigations, strengthen intelligence-based policing and improve operational coordination.
The review meeting was held in hybrid mode and attended by all three Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) of the ranges and district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Kashmir Zone.
During the meeting, the IGP assessed progress in crime disposal and stressed adherence to the stipulated 60- and 90-day timelines for investigation and disposal of cases under the relevant provisions of the new criminal laws.
He also reviewed theft-related cases, recovery rates and measures to dismantle organised theft networks, directing officers to strengthen supervision and ensure effective follow-up in pending cases.
On security, Kumar called for enhanced intelligence gathering and effective action against overground workers (OGWs), hybrid terrorists and other elements posing threats to peace and security. He stressed the need for close monitoring of emerging challenges and coordinated efforts to maintain public order.
With winter approaching, the IGP reviewed arrangements for heating and other essential facilities at police stations and establishments, directing officers to ensure adequate provisions for personnel deployed in harsh weather conditions.
He also called for making police nakas more dynamic and intelligence-driven while minimising inconvenience to the public. Strengthened inter-agency coordination and greater operational synergy on the ground were emphasised.
Reviewing cases pending before courts and matters stayed by judicial orders, Kumar stressed proper monitoring and timely follow-up in accordance with court directions and established legal procedures.
The meeting also discussed identifying police stations for development as Model Police Stations and upgrading existing police stations and police posts to improve infrastructure, policing standards and public service delivery.
Emphasising community engagement, the IGP directed officers to hold regular police-public meetings to address grievances, encourage public participation and strengthen trust between the police and communities.
He directed all officers across Kashmir Zone to maintain close supervision of crime disposal, reinforce preventive policing and ensure adequate winter preparedness to safeguard peace, security and public safety.
