Srinagar : Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Departments, Javid Ahmad Dar, today participated virtually in a review meeting held to discuss implementation of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan (Save the Farm Campaign), scheduled to commence on October 22 and continue until November 30, 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who reviewed the campaign’s implementation framework. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to ensure its effective execution at the grassroots level, with a focus on reaching farmers in every village.

During the meeting, the Union Minister directed the concerned Ministers and departments to put in place a robust implementation mechanism to ensure effective outreach and tangible benefits for the farming community. He underscored that soil conservation is not merely an agricultural priority but is fundamental to the country’s long-term sustainability and the nutritional security of future generations.

Briefing the meeting on Jammu and Kashmir’s preparedness, Javid Dar reiterated that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, remains committed to extend all necessary support and facilities to the farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector across the Union Territory.

Javid Dar  stated that Jammu and Kashmir had achieved its targets during the previous Kharif season in accordance with the directions of the Union Government. Expressing confidence in performance of the agricultural sector, he said that concerted efforts would be made to achieve even better results during the ongoing Rabi season, building on the progress made during the previous Kharif season.

Javid Dar informed the meeting that Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir and Jammu, along with allied departments, would actively participate in the Khet Bachao Abhiyan to ensure effective implementation of the campaign across Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among the agricultural institutions, field functionaries and concerned departments to sensitise the farmers about soil testing, conservation of organic matter, balanced application of fertilisers and environmentally responsible management of crop residues.

The Minister said that greater awareness among farmers and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices would be instrumental in maintaining soil fertility, improving crop productivity and strengthening the long-term sustainability of farming in Jammu and Kashmir.
