The operation was launched by Sopore Police following specific intelligence inputs in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bomai. During the search, a blue barrel and a bag containing the material were found concealed beneath a large boulder, officials said.
A Bomb Disposal Squad was called to the spot to examine and safely handle the suspected explosive material.
The recovered cache included two assault rifles, an AK-47 and an AK-76, along with seven magazines and ammunition, besides four pistols with four magazines and ammunition.
Police also recovered a multi-grenade launcher with five rounds, 11 hand grenades, three IEDs fitted with remote controls, eight detonators and two timers.
Other items included a Y-SMS set, prima cords, wires, battery cells, IED-related components and miscellaneous accessories.
The material was seized following due legal procedure and with necessary safety precautions.
In connection with the recovery, an FIR under Sections 13, 18, 20 and 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Section 7/25 of the Arms Act and Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act has been registered at Police Station Bomai under FIR No. 66/2026.
