Ongoing Projects To Fulfill Local Demand, Boost National Grid

Srinagar | October, 03: Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal announced that the Centre is considering new hydropower projects, including Sawalkot, to harness Jammu and Kashmir’s vast potential. He ssaid that ongoing projects are progressing well, aiming to meet both local demands and national power requirements. The Centre is actively advancing major projects like Ratle, Pakal Dul, Kiroo, and Kwar in collaboration with the Chenab Valley Corporation Ltd and the UT administration.
Addressing J&K’s power dependence despite a identified potential of 14,500 MW, officials said these projects will effectively address the issue. Regarding the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, J&K has reached its first milestone of 100 MW as part of a national effort involving 50 lakh participants. Progress varies across districts, with Srinagar, Budgam, and Kupwara performing exceptionally well, while Baramulla and Bandipora lag behind. The subsidy disbursement system remains fully portal-driven, ensuring direct transfers to beneficiaries. Further discussions regarding top-up subsidies are planned with the Chief Secretary. Meanwhile, 164 GW of ground-mounted solar capacity is currently connected nationally. Agarwal also reviewed implementation efforts at a Seva Setu Abhiyan Camp in Srinagar.
