Srinagar, Oct 2: Five MBBS students and interns of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, have been suspended for one week and fined Rs 10,000 each following their alleged involvement in a ragging incident, according to an official order issued by the institution.

The order, stated that the students/interns had been “reported and observed” to be involved in an incident of ragging, which the college said constituted a violation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.

Those named in the order are Shubham Verma and Sunil Verma of Batch 2023, Shahdev of Batch 2024, and MBBS interns Rupal Suntel and Lavish Sharma of Batch 2021.

The action was taken on the recommendation of the Anti-Ragging Committee. The five have been suspended from classes and other academic and internship activities for one week.

The college has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each student/intern, which is to be deposited in the prescribed CD-10 account within five days from the date of issuance of the order.

The parents or guardians of the concerned students/interns have been directed to accompany them before the Anti-Ragging Committee on October 9 for further disciplinary proceedings.

The order further warned that failure to comply with the directions could invite additional disciplinary action under the applicable UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations and institutional rules.
