Baramulla : Police on Sunday said that it has cracked a high-value residential theft case within a short timeframe, apprehending three individuals and recovering stolen gold ornaments.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Police said that an investigation was launched one Saleema Begum of Rangwar, Baramulla, lodged a complaint reporting therein that gold jewellery and cash were stolen from her home while she was away on Independence Day duties. A case under FIR No. 139/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered. During questioning, suspected domestic worker Shabir Ahmad Khan confessed the crime and admitted to passing the stolen items to Ulfat Rather of Kanispora. Further interrogation of Ulfat led to the recovery of a gold ring and an earring from her residence, alongside disclosures that a stolen pair of gold bangles was sold to Hilal Ahmad Zargar, owner of Gousia Ornaments, for ₹2.40 lakh (₹1.80 lakh transferred digitally and ₹60,000 paid in cash). Police subsequently recovered the bangles from the shop. All three individuals have been arrested, and efforts are currently underway to recover the remaining ₹15,000 in cash and a missing gold earring.
