Sopore : Police on Sunday said that it has impounded multiple heavy machinery units and a vehicle for illegal mining in Sopore.
In a statement issued here on Sunday Police said that during intensified checking at various locations across Police District Sopore, 10 motorized pumps used for illegal mineral extraction and one tractor used for transporting the material were seized.
Police in its statement further said legal proceedings have been formally initiated under the law and reiterated commitment to workin tandem with the Geology & Mining and Irrigation & Flood Control Departments to protect the region’s natural ecosystem. Police also warned strict penal action against anyone involved in illegal mining operations.
