J&K admin details 100-day crackdown on drug networks, narco-terrorism
New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday met Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and presented a policy document detailing the administration’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking and narco-terrorism in the Union Territory.
LG Sinha presented Shah a special publication titled “A People’s War, A Leader’s Vision: Dismantling Drug Ecosystem in J&K”, which outlines the strategy and measures undertaken under the NashaMukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.
The document highlights the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, drug peddling and networks associated with narco-terrorism. It also details enforcement and rehabilitation measures aimed at curbing substance abuse and protecting young people from the drug menace.
The briefing follows the conclusion of a targeted 100-day anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, during which enforcement agencies intensified action against drug peddlers and alleged drug networks.
The administration has also focused on strengthening the rehabilitation framework across all 20 districts, combining enforcement action with de-addiction and rehabilitation measures.
During the meeting, LG Sinha apprised HM Shah of the progress achieved under the campaign and the administration’s broader strategy to dismantle the drug ecosystem in J&K.
HM Shah reiterated the Centre’s support for Jammu and Kashmir’s anti-drug campaign and assured that necessary resources would be made available to strengthen efforts towards making the Union Territory drug-free.
The meeting comes amid continued efforts by the Centre and the J&K administration to tackle drug abuse as well as the alleged links between narcotics trafficking and terrorism in the region.
