Srinagar: From innovative waste-to-art initiatives and a renewed push for agri-startups to the reopening of Doodhpathri and a Crime Branch chargesheet in an alleged job fraud case, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a week marked by development, tourism, innovation and enforcement. Here are five key stories from across the Union Territory.
1. Waste To Wonder Garden Opens In Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the Waste to Wonder–Flower Garden and Floriculture Mela at Polo View, showcasing creative installations made from discarded materials. He urged people to embrace reuse and recycling.
2. LG’s Call For United Fight Against Terror: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha this week laid the foundation stone of Amriteshwar Sarovar at Dharpur, Sunderbani, and stressed community participation in tackling terrorism, substance abuse and corruption.
3. SKUAST-Jammu Gets New Innovation Centres: The Lt Governor Manoj Sinha this week inaugurated new facilities, including AI and ML in Agriculture, Mushroom Research and Innovation and an Advanced Sericulture Laboratory. He urged youth to develop local solutions and turn ideas into startups.
4. Doodhpathri Reopens To Tourists: The popular Budgam destination reopened after over a month, with nearly 500 tourists visiting on the first day. Tourism-related activities and tea stalls have also resumed.
5. Crime Branch Chargesheets Alleged Job Fraud Accused: Economic Offences Wing Kashmir filed a chargesheet against a Kupwara man accused of cheating a person of lakhs by promising a government job and allegedly providing a fake appointment order.
