Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has seized 27 vehicles for unauthorized extraction and transportation of minor minerals across Shopian and Ganderbal districts.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Police said that in Shopian, five dumpers, five tippers, and eight tractors found extracting and transporting minerals without mandatory permission were seized. Teams from Police Station Zainapora, Police Station Shopian, and Police Post Turkwangam conducted the operation, confiscating the vehicles during routine patrolling. Following the seizures, police registered formal cases—FIR No. 104/2026 and FIR No. 105/2026 at PS Zainapora, and FIR No. 164/2026 at PS Shopian—under relevant sections of the law, with further investigations underway.
Meanwhile, in Ganderbal, police intercepted and seized nine vehicles, including seven tippers and two tractors, operating in violation of prescribed norms. “The vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was referred to the Geology & Mining Department, which subsequently imposed mandatory fines,” Police said.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting natural resources, police appealed people to report unlawful mining activities, assuring that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential.
