Srinagar : The Directorate of Lifelong Learning & Skill Development (DLLSD) at the University of Kashmir has launched a three-month introductory training program in Fashion Technology, complemented by the establishment of a dedicated Fashion Technology Lab.
The initiative aims to provide participants with a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills pertinent to the fashion and apparel industry, thereby enhancing their employability, entrepreneurial prospects, and opportunities for further professional development. During the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized the significance of skill-based programs in bridging the gap between academic education and job market demands. She highlighted that meaningful skill development occurs when learners can apply their training to real-world work and livelihood opportunities. Additionally, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada and Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal underscored the necessity of expanding skill-oriented programs to offer learners diverse pathways to financial independence and self-employment. Prof. Humaira Azim, Director of the Institute of Home Science, noted that the course is tailored to meet current skill demands and employment trends, incorporating hands-on training to foster practical competencies in various aspects of fashion technology. The program includes both theoretical and practical components, covering areas such as fashion design, garment construction, pattern making, and finishing techniques. The newly established Fashion Technology Lab will serve as a dedicated facility for practical instruction, enhancing the overall learning experience for participants.
