Bandipora : The District Level Committee (DLC) convened under the Jammu & Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP) at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora, with the aim of enhancing Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), fostering agri-entrepreneurship, and improving farmers’ livelihoods. Chaired by the District Development Commissioner of Bandipora, the meeting included various officials from agricultural and financial sectors, as well as progressive farmers and Dr. Tariq Sultan, the Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Bandipora. Dr. Sultan presented the objectives of JKCIP, emphasizing its role in sustainable agricultural development through the strengthening of FPOs, improved market access, and value addition. He confirmed that all proposals had undergone thorough scrutiny by designated officers before being submitted for approval. The Committee discussed several key components of JKCIP, including support for farm mechanization, agri-service centers, orchard management, water management, and aggregation business models. After careful consideration, all eligible proposals were approved, aligning with the project’s guidelines. The approved initiatives are anticipated to enhance FPO-led services, increase access to modern agricultural machinery, improve water management practices, and promote aggregation-based business models. These efforts are expected to lead to increased farm productivity, better market connections, and higher rural incomes. The meeting concluded with a commitment to transparent implementation of JKCIP and a focus on strengthening FPOs, promoting rural entrepreneurship, and creating sustainable livelihoods for the farming community in Bandipora.
