Ahmadabad : Five journalists from Jammu and Kashmir are participating in an 11-day capacity-building programme on National Security Journalism at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The initiative, which runs until August 6, aims to enhance journalists’ abilities to report on sensitive security matters with accuracy and responsibility. The inaugural sessions featured discussions led by experts on the significance of national security journalism, particularly in conflict-prone areas like Jammu and Kashmir. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H. Wandra highlighted the programme’s goal of developing journalists who can navigate complex national security issues effectively. The training encompasses various aspects of security reporting, including defence, internal security, terrorism, and cyber incidents, and includes practical learning opportunities and field exposure. Dr. Jasbir Kaur Thadhani, Dean Academic at RRU, emphasized the growing importance of responsible journalism in the digital age, where misinformation can spread rapidly. The programme is designed to provide journalists with the necessary knowledge and skills to report on security issues in a way that fosters informed public discourse and enhances democratic values.
