Jammu| July, 20: The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has expressed gratitude to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for timely intervention that led to safe return of Amjad Ali, a Kashmiri youth from Baramulla, who had been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for nearly three months.
Amjad, a healthcare professional, was detained in March 2026 by Saudi authorities after being questioned about a Facebook post expressing condolences for the death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Despite his cooperation, Amjad was held without formal charges, causing significant distress for his family. The JKSA intervened by contacting the Indian government, urging the MEA to engage with Saudi officials and ensure Amjad’s legal rights were upheld. The Association emphasized that Amjad had no prior history of unlawful activities and was in Saudi Arabia solely for work. Following persistent diplomatic efforts, Amjad was released on June 25 and has since returned home, reuniting with his family after a harrowing ordeal. The reunion has brought relief to his family, and the JKSA commended Dr. Jaishankar for his humanitarian approach, highlighting the MEA’s commitment to the welfare of Indian nationals abroad. The Association said that Amjad’s case exemplifies the Ministry’s dedication to providing timely consular assistance and diplomatic support.
