Party awaits venue clearance, Ramlila Maidan or Jantar Mantar possible sites
Srinagar : Ahead of a planned protest in New Delhi advocating for the restoration of statehood, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and several legislators, traveled from Srinagar to the national capital.
Ruling National Conference is seeking permission to conduct a sit-in, expressing optimism about receiving approval for the event. The protest is scheduled for July 20, coinciding with the start of the Monsoon session of Parliament, and may take place at either Jantar Mantar or Ramlila Maidan. The NC has extended invitations to 52 political and religious figures to join the protest, although the BJP has declined to participate, opting instead to organize a separate demonstration at the Secretariat. Additionally, smaller Kashmir-based parties, including the PDP and PC, have chosen not to engage in the protest, citing neglect of demands related to the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A. Meanwhile, senior BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, have arrived in Kashmir to rally public support for their own protest initiatives.
