  • States, UTs, Central Ministries asked to ensure strict compliance; MHA reiterates authorised sequence, script & pronunciation for National Anthem National Song.

Srinagar| July, 11 : The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reiterated the existing protocol governing the singing and playing of the National Anthem and the National Song, directing all States, Union Territories and Central Ministries to ensure strict compliance with the prescribed guidelines.

In a communication issued on July 9, the MHA forwarded the existing orders relating to the National Anthem and the National Song to Chief Secretaries of States, Administrators of Union Territories and Secretaries of all Central Ministries and Departments, asking them to circulate the instructions among institutions and organisations under their jurisdiction.

The Ministry said the orders contain an exhaustive list of occasions on which the National Anthem and the National Song shall or may be sung or played. It also clarified that on occasions where both are performed together, the National Song should be sung or played first, followed by the National Anthem.

The communication further noted that in States where a State Song is also rendered along with the National Anthem and the National Song, the prescribed sequence should be followed, with the National Song preceding the National Anthem.

Emphasising the need for uniformity, the MHA said the correct script, text, diction and pronunciation of both the National Anthem and the National Song must be followed strictly during all renditions.

To facilitate compliance, the Ministry said the authorised text and pronunciation guides are available on its official website for reference.

The MHA has requested all States, Union Territories and Central Ministries to issue suitable directions to educational institutions, government offices and other organisations to ensure strict adherence to the established protocol relating to the country’s national symbols.
