RBI urges citizens to complete Re-KYC, adopt safe digital banking; drive focuses on PMJDY, insurance and pension schemes

Srinagar :  J&K Bank, as the Convener of the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee, organized a Mega Financial Inclusion Saturation Campaign-2026 in Srinagar in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India.

The event, themed “Together Towards Financial Empowerment,” aimed to enhance financial inclusion and broaden access to banking and social security schemes. It gathered senior officials from the RBI, J&K Bank, district administration, government departments, member banks, and the public. During the event, Nisha Nambiar, Chief General Manager of the RBI’s Financial Inclusion and Development Department, emphasized the importance of completing Re-KYC formalities and adopting secure digital banking practices. She highlighted that Re-KYC is crucial for uninterrupted banking access and encouraged customers to utilize digital channels for this process. Nambiar also raised awareness about the increasing risk of cyber fraud, urging participants to remain vigilant and promote financial inclusion. Imtiyaz Ahmed Bhat, Chief General Manager of J&K Bank, noted the significant strides made in financial inclusion within Jammu and Kashmir, citing over 25 lakh Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts and more than 16 lakh RuPay debit cards. He reported that banks opened 1.57 lakh new PMJDY accounts in the last financial year, with substantial growth in enrollments for various government insurance and pension schemes.

Rifat Aftab Qureshi, Additional District Development Commissioner Srinagar, reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to ensuring that government financial schemes reach all eligible households. Chandrashekhar Azad, Regional Director of RBI Jammu, reported that nearly 60 percent of bank accounts in the region have completed Re-KYC, urging the remaining account holders to update their information promptly. He also encouraged the use of the RBI’s UDGAM Portal for claiming unclaimed deposits and commended J&K Bank for its efforts in promoting financial inclusion. The campaign focused on enrolling beneficiaries in various government schemes, activating dormant accounts, and raising awareness about digital banking and cyber fraud prevention. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Khursheed Muzaffar, General Manager of UTLBC/FID at J&K Bank.
