Awareness drives, medical shop inspections, cannabis eradication carried out in Handwara, Pulwama, Sopore

Srinagar: Police have intensified their anti-drug initiatives as part of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, focusing on coordinated enforcement, awareness, and preventive measures in Handwara, Pulwama, and Sopore to address the escalating drug issue and foster a drug-free environment.

Officials said that in Handwara, a drug awareness program was held at Government High School Nowgam, educating students about the dangers of substance abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles. Additionally, inspections of medical shops were conducted to ensure compliance with regulations regarding the sale of prescription medications, with shopkeepers instructed to adhere to legal protocols. To further bolster anti-narcotics efforts, Handwara Police, in collaboration with civil society and local volunteers, initiated a campaign to identify and eradicate wild hemp plants, aiming to eliminate sources of narcotics and support the vision of a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir. In Pulwama, the police continued their anti-drug campaign through preventive measures and awareness programs. A wild cannabis destruction drive was executed in Singu Narbal and Dafferpora villages, with the involvement of the Revenue Department and local stakeholders, ensuring the removal of cannabis from government land. Moreover, an anti-drug awareness program was organized at Sheikh-ul-Alam High School in Rahmoo, where students and staff were informed about the risks associated with drug abuse and the importance of collective efforts in creating a drug-free society. In Sopore, police collaborated with the Revenue and Excise Departments to destroy wild cannabis during a special drive at Reban.
