MLAs raise constituency specific concerns
Srinagar :Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, Tuesday said that the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed towards protecting and preserving the treasured houseboat heritage of Kashmir.
He made these remarks during a meeting with the All Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association (AKHBOA) held at Civil Secretariat Srinagar. The meeting was also attended by MLA Zadibal constituency, Tanveer Sadiq.
Rana emphasized the significance of houseboats as a cultural symbol of the Valley and a crucial component of its tourism economy, highlighting the commitment to support communities reliant on this sector. A delegation led by Manzoor Ahmad Pakhtoon, Chairman of the Association of Houseboat Owners, presented various challenges facing the houseboat industry, particularly the need for timber to maintain these heritage structures. They argued that houseboats are a unique heritage asset in Jammu and Kashmir, essential for tourism and the livelihoods of many families, and requested an increase in the timber quota and a more streamlined procurement process. In response, the Minister assured the delegation that their concerns would be considered with care, reaffirming the government’s dedication to preserving the region’s heritage while supporting the communities that depend on it. The delegation expressed appreciation for the Minister’s positive reception of their longstanding requests. Additionally, legislators Ranbir Singh Pathania and Mir Saifullah met with the Minister to discuss various development and public welfare issues in their constituencies, receiving assurances that their concerns would be addressed promptly.
