Says “ Census the founding pillars of dev with accurate data collection”
Anantnag :: In continuation of ongoing Districts’ Review streak, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma along with Biswajit Das, Deputy Director General, MHA, Office of Registrar General of India, Monday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Conference Hall, Anantnag to assess the progress of the ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO) being conducted under Census 2027 in the district.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Census Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Anantnag, Dr Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, Joint Director, DCO J&K, Arun Kumar, Assistant Director DCO J&K, Vijay Kumar; Additional Deputy Commissioner (District Census Officer), Vikas Ahlawat; ACR, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, DSEO (Additional District Census Officer), Charge Officers and other concerned officials associated with the Census exercise.
The Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) emphasized the critical role of Census Data as foundational for future development and prosperity in Kashmir and the nation as a whole. Amit Sharma, reviewing the progress in Anantnag district, highlighted the Census as the largest administrative and statistical exercise in the country, essential for planning, resource allocation, and socio-economic development. He noted Anantnag’s historical significance and its appeal as a tourist destination. Sharma underscored the necessity of accuracy in data collection, instructing enumerators and supervisors to ensure meticulous recording and verification of information. He warned that even minor inaccuracies could significantly affect the quality of Census data and future policy planning. The CPCO directed Charge Officers to conduct regular field inspections and random quality checks to uphold Census guidelines, with a particular focus on verifying household information and including migratory populations and special categories. The Deputy Director General of the Census engaged directly with enumerators and supervisors to gather feedback that would enhance the upcoming technology-driven phase of Population Enumeration scheduled for September 2026 and February 2027. The Principal Census Officer assured comprehensive administrative support for the Census operations and urged all officers to monitor field activities closely to meet deadlines and adhere to guidelines. The Additional Deputy Commissioner provided an update on the district’s preparations for Census-2027, confirming the successful creation of House Listing Blocks and the smooth progress of field operations. He also reported on the training of enumerators, self-enumeration efforts, and awareness campaigns aimed at ensuring quality data collection, particularly for migratory populations. Sharma instructed field functionaries to track migration routes and gather information on eligible tribal populations to ensure comprehensive enumeration. Highlighting the advantages of technology, Sharma noted that digital data collection would enhance efficiency and improve data quality. The meeting also reviewed training, awareness campaigns, supervision, and monitoring arrangements to ensure error-free Census operations. The CPCO later addressed the media, detailing the progress of House Listing Operations for Census-2027 and urging the public in J&K and Ladakh, especially Anantnag residents, to cooperate with enumerators to provide accurate information, which is vital for informed governance and equitable resource distribution.
