Ganderbal, June 15: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Monday retrieved the second body from the Hydropower Canal near Fraw Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, concluding an intensive search and rescue operation launched after two persons were suspected to have drowned in the canal.

Officials said SDRF teams from Gund and Ganderbal recovered the body of Adil Ahmad Tantray (35), a resident of Gund, Ganderbal, from the canal on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the body of a woman was also recovered from the canal following a large-scale search operation launched near Ramwari in the Gund area after reports emerged that two persons had gone missing and were feared drowned.

The search operation, involving SDRF personnel and local authorities, was carried out for several hours before both bodies were traced and recovered.

Officials said the bodies were handed over to the concerned authorities for completion of legal formalities. Further proceedings are underway.
