Srinagar :In view of the forthcoming observance of Muharram-ul-Harram 2026, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives and Elections, Javid Ahmad Dar, Monday chaired separate review meetings in Sumbal Bandipora and Budgam districts to assess the preparedness of various departments and ensure seamless arrangements for the devotees during the holy month.

The Minister at a review meeting in Sumbal took stock of  the arrangements for the observance of Muharram, attended by local officials, Shia organization representatives, and civil society members. The Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora outlined the district administration’s preparations, which include ensuring adequate power supply, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, road connectivity, traffic management, and public distribution services. During the meeting, representatives from various Shia organizations raised concerns regarding essential services needed during the holy month. The Minister listened attentively and instructed relevant departments to address these issues promptly. He emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination to prevent any inconvenience for devotees and urged for all arrangements to be finalized ahead of time, with ongoing monitoring of the facilities provided. The Minister highlighted the significance of maintaining cleanliness around Imambaras and procession routes, directing municipal and rural development authorities to enhance sanitation efforts and waste management during Muharram. He reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating religious observances and assured that all legitimate demands from representatives would be prioritized and addressed in a timely manner. In a subsequent meeting in Budgam, the Minister reviewed the district’s preparedness for Muharram, with the Deputy Commissioner reporting on the measures being implemented. He stressed the need for effective coordination among departments to manage religious gatherings efficiently and instructed officers to ensure all necessary arrangements are completed before the observance begins. The Minister also engaged with Muharram committee representatives and local stakeholders, promising that their concerns would be addressed promptly to ensure a peaceful and dignified observance of Muharram-ul-Harram. Local MLAs were present, reinforcing the importance of cooperation among the public and authorities to maintain the sanctity and discipline associated with the observance.
