JAMMU :The Jammu Municipal Corporation has formulated a comprehensive sanitation plan to maintain cleanliness along major roads, market areas, pilgrimage routes and public spaces during the annual Amarnath Yatra-2026. To strengthen mechanized cleaning operations, a fleet of specialized sanitation vehicles has been deployed across the city.
The fleet includes three compact road-sweeping machines that vacuum litter, dust and other waste materials directly from road surfaces. These machines are particularly effective in cleaning narrow stretches and urban roads. In addition, four Italian-made Dulevo 6000 road-sweeping vehicles have been deployed for cleaning major roads and important traffic corridors. Two GVP vehicles equipped with powerful vacuum suction systems have also been pressed into service to collect accumulated waste and debris from roadsides and other public areas.
All these vehicles operate primarily during night hours when traffic movement is significantly lower. Since mechanized sweeping vehicles move at a relatively slow speed while carrying out cleaning operations, night deployment allows them to clean roads more efficiently and safely without disrupting the movement of commuters. The reactivation of these machines after necessary maintenance and repairs is expected to considerably improve sanitation standards across the city.
Providing details about the mechanized sanitation fleet, Chief Transport Officer Zone lll Jammu Municipal Corporation Balkar Angurana stated that the vehicles have been strategically deployed to maximize their effectiveness and ensure better cleanliness outcomes. He informed that the three compact road-sweeping machines are capable of vacuuming dust and litter directly from road surfaces, while the Dulevo 6000 and GVP vehicles are being utilized for cleaning larger roads and public spaces. He added that all the machines are being operated during night hours to facilitate smooth operations and comprehensive road cleaning with minimal interference from traffic.
Besides mechanized cleaning, the Corporation continues to undertake regular sanitation activities, including door-to-door waste collection, manual sweeping, drain cleaning and public awareness campaigns. Citizens are being urged to cooperate by avoiding littering and disposing of waste only through designated collection systems.
Municipal Commissioner Dr.Devansh Yadav stated that Jammu Municipal Corporation is fully committed to ensure a clean, hygienic and welcoming environment ahead of the Amarnath Yatra-2026 and the forthcoming Swachh Survekshan. He said that all available resources have been mobilized to strengthen sanitation services across the city and appealed to the public to actively support the cleanliness drive by maintaining civic responsibility and helping keep Jammu clean and green.
