Jammu : Director Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Jammu Anil Gupta today visited Seed Multiplication Farm (SMF) Chinore and reviewed the functioning and ongoing agricultural activities at the farm.
During the visit, the Director reviewed the completion of Rabi harvesting operations and assessed the crop produce harvested at the farm. He also took stock of preparedness for the upcoming Kharif season and reviewed the arrangements being made for sowing activities. The status of foundation and breeder seed production of elite and high-yielding varieties of paddy and other Kharif crops was also reviewed during the inspection.
The Director examined the latest farm machinery being utilised for agricultural operations and inspected the availability of essential agricultural inputs and operational machinery required for the ensuing Kharif season. He directed the officers and field staff to ensure timely availability of machinery and inputs for smooth conduct of farm operations.
He emphasised that efficient use of modern machinery, scientific farming methods and advanced production technologies should be adopted to further enhance productivity and farm efficiency. The Director further stated that there remains considerable scope for boosting agricultural production through improved farm management practices and effective implementation of modern techniques.
The Director also inspected irrigation infrastructure and other facilities available at the farm and issued necessary directions for further strengthening irrigation arrangements and maintenance of farm assets to support timely agricultural operations.
During the inspection, Director Agriculture inspected the harvested Rabi produce of different crops including wheat, mustard and oats. He stressed upon proper storage, handling and safety measures for maintaining seed quality standards and directed the concerned staff to ensure that the quality of seed does not deteriorate during storage till the produce is shifted to the seed processing plant.
While reviewing preparations for the Kharif season, the Director took stock of the in-sowing plan and instructed the farm staff to take all necessary measures for timely sowing of Kharif crops strictly as per the approved action plan.
Among others, Joint Director Agriculture (Farms/SLUB) Aman Jyoti Sharma, Farm Manager SM Farm Chinore Verinder Dogra, besides other officers and officials accompanied the Director during the visit.
