Srinagar, May 20 (UNI) Claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party has witnessed remarkable growth in Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade, J&K BJP General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul on Wednesday said that thousands of people attended the party’s joining programme in Srinagar, where hundreds formally joined the saffron outfit.
“What was the BJP 10 years ago, and what is the BJP today? Today, you have seen thousands of people in the programme. Hundreds of people have joined the BJP,” Koul told reporters after the party function in Srinagar.
He said the political atmosphere in Kashmir has changed significantly over the years, and people are now openly associating with the BJP.
“Earlier, people used to run after hearing the name of the BJP. Today, wearing the BJP cap openly in front of the media is a big thing. We thank all these people. This shows that the BJP is growing in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
The joining programme was attended by senior BJP leaders, including Mohammad Anwar Khan and Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, among others.
According to a party statement, several political leaders, trade union representatives, and social activists joined the BJP on the occasion.
Welcoming the new entrants, Koul said the massive participation reflected the growing confidence of people in the policies, leadership, and vision of the BJP. He said the party stands for development, peace, transparency, and equal opportunities for all sections of society.
Other BJP leaders also termed the joining programme as an indication of a changing political mood in Kashmir, and said more people were supporting the BJP’s agenda of inclusive development and public welfare.
