Portal opens at 6 am; door-to-door operations from June 1

Jammu : Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, who is also the Principal Census Officer for the district, has appealed the people to earnestly participate in digital self- enumeration opening on May 17 – the launch day of Census 2027 operations.

Speaking at a press conference here at the District Headquarters, he urged residents of Jammu district to actively participate in the landmark national enumeration exercise.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (also the District Census Officer) Vidhu Shekhar and District Statistical and Evaluation Officer (DSEO) Neeraj Sharma were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Minhas informed that the Self-Enumeration (Digital Mode) window for Jammu district shall be open from 17th May 2026 to 31st May 2026, with the official portal going live at 6:00 AM on May 17. This will be followed by Field House Listing Operations (HLO) being conducted by trained enumerators from 1st June 2026 to 30th June 2026.

“The steps to self-enumerate include visiting the official portal at se.census.gov.in, registering using an active mobile number to receive a secure login, filling in the required household and individual details, submitting the form and noting down the unique Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) generated upon successful submission,” he explained.

The DC apprised that any adult member of the household can complete the self-enumeration on their personal device: mobile phone, tablet or computer. Residents can log into the Self-Enumeration portal using their mobile number and other basic details and complete the Census schedule at their convenience. During the houselisting operations, a structured questionnaire, covering 33 notified questions, will be posed to citizens regarding basic facilities in their homes, information about the head of the household, ownership status and other household amenities.

Dr. Minhas clarified that residents who are unable to avail the self-enumeration facility need not worry, as trained field enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits across all localities from June 1 to June 30, 2026, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Self-Enumeration is an additional facility; enumerators will continue to make house-to-house enumeration in their allocated blocks as in previous censuses, he informed.

Households that have already self-enumerated were urged to keep their SE ID ready to share with visiting enumerators. This will significantly reduce the time taken for field verification and improve overall operational efficiency.

The DC assured residents that all field enumerators are officially designated government functionaries and shall be carrying valid, government-issued identity cards. Residents were urged to ask for identification before sharing information and to cooperate with verified enumerators.

Dr. Minhas categorically stated that the entire census exercise is free of cost and no payment of any kind is required at any stage. He strongly cautioned the public against fraudsters who may attempt to collect money in the name of census operations and urged residents to report any such incidents to the district administration immediately.

The public is also assured that all information collected during the Census process shall remain strictly confidential and will be used solely for statistical purposes and national policy formulation.

Dr. Minhas appealed to all residents of Jammu district, urban and rural, to actively participate in the census exercise, calling it a civic duty and a contribution to the development of the nation. The census remains a vital tool for governance, providing the foundation for India’s development planning for the next decade.
