Udhampur : Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa Thursday conducted a public outreach programme at Manwal in Block Majalta under the Weekly Block Diwas initiative.

The programme witnessed the participation of Assistant Commissioner Development Om Parkash; ACP Dr. Ashwani Hansa; district officers, former PRI members and a large number of residents from adjoining areas.

During the interaction, former PRI members and locals projected several public issues and demands, seeking adequate drinking water supply, repair of hand pumps, prevention of illegal mining in local nallas, survey of post-flood damages, blacktopping of roads, establishment of a community library, construction of a boundary wall in Chaini Panchayat, shortage of staff in schools, low voltage problem, up-gradation of the Cooperative Society at Thalora, operationalization of the Handicraft and Handloom Centre, construction of a mobile toilet at Thalora and public toilet at Mansar.

While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the prime objective of Block Diwas was to obtain firsthand feedback on grassroots issues and ensure timely redressal of public grievances. He said that such platforms help the district administration to understand multifaceted concerns of the people and resolve them through proper prioritization and optimum utilization of available resources.

The DC also sensitized the participants about various flagship government initiatives and welfare schemes, including PM Surya GharMuft Bijli Yojana, HADP and Mission YUVA, urging the public to come forward and avail maximum benefits under these schemes.

Several grievances were addressed on the spot through the intervention of the concerned officers. The Deputy Commissioner assured the public that the remaining issues would be taken up on priority and directed officers to work with dedication and commitment for effective resolution of genuine public concerns.

Earlier, officers and officials from different government departments also sensitized the public about various government schemes and flagship programmes.
