Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated the Shri Narsingh Dev Sanskrit Gurukul at the historic Shri Narsingh Dev Temple complex in Ghagwal, Samba, describing it as a significant step towards cultural revival and strengthening India’s ancient knowledge systems.

On the occasion, the LG also dedicated the Nakshatra Park and Yoga Dhyan Kendra to the public and laid the foundation stone for the Shri Narsingh Dev Public Library and an Open Air Amphitheatre. The initiatives are aimed at promoting education, wellness, and cultural engagement in the region.

Addressing scholars, students, and citizens, the Lieutenant Governor said the establishment of the Gurukul represents a meaningful reconnection with India’s civilizational roots and marks a step towards cultural renaissance. He said Ghagwal has historically been a centre of learning where Vedic traditions and the Guru-Shishya system flourished, shaping intellectual, ethical, and philosophical foundations.

The LG highlighted that while India is making rapid progress in science, innovation, and technology, its true strength lies in its cultural consciousness. He underlined that Sanskrit continues to play a vital role in preserving ethical values and offering a balanced worldview rooted in duty and discipline.

“Sanskrit has for centuries been a source of knowledge systems that guided humanity in mathematics, medicine, and philosophy,” he said, recalling the contributions of ancient scholars such as Kautilya, Charaka, Sushruta, Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskracharya, and Varahamihira in shaping global intellectual traditions.

He stressed the need to make this vast knowledge accessible in simplified, modern language so that it remains relevant for future generations. The LG urged the Gurukul management to integrate traditional wisdom with modern education, ensuring that students are not only degree holders but also ethical, courageous and socially responsible individuals.

“I am confident that Narsingh Dev Sanskrit Gurukul will emerge as a centre of excellence by blending heritage with modern learning systems,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor also appreciated the efforts of Chudamani Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Narsingh Dev Temple Management Committee, and the district administration Samba for establishing the institution. He lauded their vision and commitment towards preserving cultural and educational heritage.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by MLA Samba Surjit Singh Slathia, senior officials including Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti, DIG JSK Range Shridhar Patil, Deputy Commissioner Samba Ayushi Sudan, and several Vedic scholars and dignitaries.
