Srinagar: A total of 108 personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police underwent intensive counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism training conducted by the Indian Army, officials said on Saturday.
The training was part of a joint refresher course organised under the aegis of the Army’s Tiger Division, aimed at enhancing operational coordination, standardising procedures and strengthening field-level capabilities in the Union Territory’s evolving security environment.
According to officials, the course focused on improving the effectiveness of junior leadership, which plays a critical role in executing small-team operations in counter-terror scenarios. Personnel were trained in key operational drills including area domination patrols, quick reaction team deployment, mobile vehicle check posts, ambush and counter-ambush tactics, cordon and search operations, and room intervention procedures.
In addition, specialised training was imparted in weapon handling and firing, use of modern equipment, drone identification and counter-drone measures, first aid and casualty evacuation, and intelligence collection and sharing.
The programme also included hands-on tactical exercises and field rehearsals designed to simulate real-time situations, allowing participants to gain practical exposure to operational challenges. Trainees were familiarised with advanced surveillance systems and high-tech equipment, including drones and counter-drone technologies increasingly being deployed in security operations.
Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, PRO & Spokesperson said the joint training initiative is aimed at fostering better synergy between forces operating on the ground and enhancing their ability to respond effectively to emerging threats.
“The course has helped strengthen coordination, shared situational awareness and mutual trust between the Army and J&K Police. Such initiatives are essential to ensure a disciplined and well-prepared response in counter-terror operations,” the PRO said.
Officials noted that the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir requires seamless coordination between different agencies, particularly in sensitive and high-risk areas. Regular joint training programmes are seen as crucial for bridging operational gaps and ensuring uniformity in tactical response.
They said similar initiatives will be undertaken in future to further strengthen operational readiness and maintain peace and stability in the region.
