Srinagar, Apr 15 (UNI) In continuation of sustained action against elements involved in disrupting a recent student protest at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, police have arrested five more miscreants during night-long raids in Sopore district of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, police said that the miscreants had infiltrated a peaceful protest by students and created law and order disturbances, including acts of vandalism resulting in damage to public property.
Police however, continued to take swift and targeted action against all those involved.
“Further, 13 more miscreants have been identified and efforts are underway to apprehend them at the earliest. The raids and search operations shall continue till all such elements are brought to justice,” said police.
Police have reiterated that it will not allow any individual to take advantage of sensitive situations to disturb public peace.
“All those involved in creating disorder will face firm and lawful action, and no one will be spared,” they said.
Police also appreciated the continued cooperation and support extended by the people of Sopore in maintaining peace and order and urge all citizens to remain vigilant and continue assisting law enforcement agencies.
“Police, in coordination with peace-loving citizens, remain committed to maintaining peace, security and normalcy across the district,” they said.
Violent protests broke out in Sopore following allegations of sexual harassment by a school lecturer leading to vandalism and demands for strict action.
Police have arrested several individuals out of identified 25 and the accused teacher is suspended with efforts made to bring the situation under control.
