Speakers call for adopting constitutional values in academic, public life
Srinagar :The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday commemorated the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar with enthusiasm and reverence, highlighting his enduring legacy as the architect of the Indian Constitution and a pioneer of social justice.
The event was organized by the SC/ST Cell under the leadership of its Coordinator and Liaison Officer for SCs/STs, Dr. Kurella Swamy, with the active support of the student organizing committee and under the esteemed guidance of Director NIT Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Binod Kumar Kanaujia.
The commemorative event honoring Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was presided over by Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, In-charge Director, and Prof. Atikur Rehman, Registrar, along with senior faculty members. The gathering included faculty, staff, and students who came together to recognize Dr. Ambedkar’s significant contributions to fostering an inclusive and equitable society. Prof. Roohie Naaz emphasized the importance of upholding justice, equality, and fraternity within both institutional and societal contexts. She encouraged attendees to integrate principles of equality, social justice, and constitutional morality into their daily lives while pursuing excellence in their respective fields. Prof. Atikur Rehman highlighted the ongoing relevance of Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals in contemporary academic and social settings, urging students to embody values of equality and justice and to actively contribute to a progressive society. He also stressed the role of educational institutions in cultivating responsible citizens dedicated to social transformation. Prof. M.S. Mir underscored the necessity of implementing Dr. Ambedkar’s vision to achieve a fully developed India, asserting that genuine progress hinges on embracing equality and inclusive growth. Dr. Yeshwant Mehta provided a review of a book on Gautam Buddha, discussing the relevance of Buddha’s teachings in promoting peace and ethical living. Dr. Kurella Swamy spoke about the transformative potential of education, inspired by Dr. Ambedkar’s literary contributions, and emphasized the need to engage with his writings to address societal challenges. Dr. Nitika Kundan reflected on Ambedkar’s life and struggles, encouraging students to draw inspiration from his ideals in their academic and social endeavors. The event commenced with traditional rituals, including the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and the garlanding of portraits of notable figures, followed by a Buddhavandana ceremony symbolizing peace. Students contributed to the event’s vibrancy through speeches and poetry, celebrating Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy. Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed concluded the celebrations by expressing gratitude for the support received and commending the student organizing committee for their active involvement in the successful observance of Ambedkar Jayanti at NIT Srinagar.
